Wednesday, October 16 - 7 PM - ACW - FREE

In 1933 Mabel Smith Douglass took a row boat across Lake Placid and never returned. You've probably heard her referred to as "The Lady in the Lake", but in Fathom (Bottlecap Press, 2024), Sophie Morelli asks: who was Mabel Smith Douglass, and what can we learn from her story about family, grief, and home? Join us for the first reading of Lake Placid native Sophie Morelli's debut collection of poems, and an open mic where anyone can share up to five minutes of their own writing (bonus points if you make it spooky!).

Sophie Morelli is an Adirondacks-based poet holding a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Writing, as well as a Master’s Degree in English Education, both from SUNY Potsdam. She was an Anne Labastille Memorial Writing resident in the fall of 2023 and has work featured with Querencia Press and Illuminated Press. Her poem "When They Turn The Sun On Again” was part of ACW's Postcard Poems broadside series. She works as content writer for The Pack Labs and lives in deep devotion to her dog Sherlock.
