Summary

How does a manuscript become a physical book? What's it like working with an agent? Should you self-publish, go indie, submit to contests, or mail your book to a hundred offices and hope for the best?

Author Advice is a monthly, informal talk with an author (Q&A included!) about their personal paths to publication. They'll break down why they did what they did to make their book a reality, and what they learned from it. If you've got a project finished or you hope to one day, this series is the perfect place to get some free tips, learn of new resources, and expand your writing community.

Our May guest is Brian Heinz.
Brian Heinz is an award-winning children's author with 19 published books from eight publishing houses. His work includes picture books in multiple genres and age groups including fiction, nonfiction, historical, true-to-life animal adventures, light fantasy, and verse. His 35-chapter thriller novel "Peabody Pond" for middle school readers was released by 4RV Publishing in the Fall of 2019. He is a founding member of the Long Island Children's Writers and Illustrators and a long-standing member of The Authors Guild and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI.) He presents programs more than 90 days each year at schools and professional conferences which include keynotes, writers' workshops, and dynamic assembly programs.
